Steve Aoki Talks Evolution Of EDM In Mainstream Media

How Electric Zoo's Molly Deaths Highlighted EDM's Popularity

DJ Steve Aoki stopped by HuffPost Live to discuss the evolution of electronic dance music and how it's seeping into mainstream media. "These festivals were still bringing in 50, 60, 80 [and] 100,000 people before popular culture came in asking what's happening over here," he said. "It was already pretty dominant."

HuffPost Live host Ricky Camilleri noted that the many news organizations didn't zone in on EDM until two Electric Zoo festival-goers died of molly-related causes. Only then did the world take notice. "I've played shows all around the world, and very rarely do I even see fights break out," Aoki said.
