Incumbent Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley (R) and former Democratic Rep. Parker Griffith have won their respective primaries in the Alabama gubernatorial race, the Associated Press reports.

Bentley, who was first elected to office in 2010, defeated former Morgan County Commissioner Stacy Lee George and retired businessman Bob Starkey. Griffith, a retired physician who served in Congress from 2009 to 2011, bested fellow Democrat Kevin Bass.

According to the Associated Press, more than 700,000 Alabama voters were expected to head to the polls on Tuesday.
