NORTH CANTON, Ohio (AP) — Two infants whose skeletal remains were found at a deceased Ohio woman's mobile home have been identified as her children, police and a coroner said Thursday.

Investigators believe the infants were twins and their remains were stored for nearly 40 years, North Canton police Chief Stephan Wilder said. Police said the bones were small enough to fit in someone's hand.

A man found the remains, along with a blanket and other items, in a locked blue footlocker in December while cleaning out his late mother's home in North Canton, about 45 miles southeast of Cleveland. The 66-year-old woman had died in late November.

Authorities sent the remains to the University of North Texas for forensic analysis, and DNA testing indicated the infants were her children. The analysis found no sign of foul play.

The Stark County coroner ruled the infants' cause and manner of death undetermined.

The woman's family was notified earlier Thursday by a detective, who reported that they seemed relieved to have an answer about the mysterious bones, Wilder said.

"That's all we can do right now," he said. "I would say the case is pretty much closed."

The remains will be turned over to the family, which is making arrangements for interment, Wilder said.
