Gavyn Edlinger Fired After Spraying Febreze In Accused Shoplifter's Face

Dollar Store Manager Fired After Spraying Febreze In Alleged Shoplifter's Face

When Gavyn Edlinger attempted to spray Febreze in an alleged shoplifter's face, he became an Internet sensation.

He also became unemployed.

Last month, Edlinger was a manager at a Family Dollar store in Saginaw, Michigan with hopes of moving up the corporate ladder.

Then he had a confrontation with two women whom he believed stole from the store that was caught on video and quickly went viral.

The footage shows Edlinger, 31, arguing with the alleged shoplifters in the parking lot with a can of Febreze. The conversation gets heated with four letter words exchanged on both sides, WNEM TV reports.

The situation climaxes with Edlinger taking the scented freshener and spraying it in the face of one of the women, who happens to be pregnant.

At one moment, he yells this highly quotable line: "Bitch, what I want you to do is do something. I will whoop yo' ass!"

Edlinger claims the women left with a bag of stolen merchandise, including a purse and the fateful Febreze.

The women allegedly tried to sell the purloined items to customers at the grocery store next door, according to the Saginaw News.

Police were allegedly called by Edlinger but didn't show up. Edlinger says the dispatcher told him to get the license plate number of the alleged shoplifter's car.

Officials at Saginaw County Central Dispatch said they have no record of the ousted manager's call for assistance.

Edlinger was fired six days later, according to TMZ. The video's popularity weakened his job stability, he says.

Family Dollar corporate spokesman Bryn Winburn told CBS Detroit that the company doesn't generally comment on “specific HR matters or incidents,” adding, in a emailed statement, “Please know that the safety and security of our customers and Team Members is our first priority and we take situations like these very seriously.”

Edlinger may be without work, but he's not without hope.

"Hopefully, Febreze might want to offer me a commercial," he said, according to UPI.com.
