8 Foods That Aren't What They Seem

Folks, we're about to confuse you. We apologize in advance, but it's not us, it's them. And by them we mean the very talented, but very tricky food bloggers.

These bloggers are making peculiar foods that have us questioning our senses -- burgers that aren't really burgers, pizzas that you wouldn't eat for dinner, and chicken nuggets that aren't the least bit salty. They're desserts; and they're masquerading as savory foods.

These odd desserts make us think of Rene Magritte's "The Treason of Images" painting of a pipe under which he's written, "This is not a pipe." Magritte was making a philosophical statement. We're going to borrow his style to make a very different statement: we're going to warn you guys that these foods are not what they seem, not just philosophically but ACTUALLY.

This is not a plate of chicken nuggets.

Nope, these are pieces of cake that have been deep-fried into little bits of heaven.

Surprise, this is not a cheeseburger.

It's a chocolate ice cream burger sandwiched in between two cookie buns which have been garnished with modeling chocolate lettuce and cheese, as well as, bright red icing ketchup.

These are not packets of fish and chips.

Don't put ketchup on these fish and chips! They're made with with lemon curd and whipped white chocolate frosting, plus cake.

This is not a giant burrito.

It's a huge, and very intricate, wedding cake.

These are not stuffed clams.

They're cupcakes, duh.

This is not currywurst.

It's a cupcake sausage stuffed in an actual sausage casing, topped with raspberry ketchup and served on a Long John doughnut.
