George R.R. Martin's newest character may be named "Dave Goldblatt."

Facebook employee and product specialist Dave Goldblatt donated $20,000 to charity to become a character fated to die in Martin's bestselling "Song of Ice and Fire" series of books, the basis for HBO's "Game of Thrones."

Along with the use of his name, Goldblatt was allowed to pick his character's "station in the world (lordling, knight, peasant, whore, lady, maester, septon, anything)." He asked to be a member of the Valyrian people.

"You read some piece of fiction and for whatever reason, you think one particular character or race is cool -- and for whatever reason, I thought the Valyrians were cool," Goldblatt said. "I'm hoping in future books we get to see more of them."

In the "Song of Ice and Fire" series, Valyrians are known for creating indestructible steel and also for sporting names with doubled vowels. Series heroine Daenerys Targaryen bears a Valyrian name. Fans have already commented on potential changes to Goldblatt's name that might make it fit the Valyrian aesthetic: "If he's Valyrian, then perhaps Daeverys Goldaeryen?"

Goldblatt made his charitable donation in an online auction to benefit New Mexico's Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary and The Food Depot of Santa Fe. As part of the auction, Martin offered to create two characters, one male and one female, named after two donors who gave $20,000 each. Goldblatt bought the male character; the person who purchased the female character has thus far opted to remain anonymous.

The charity auction, hosted on fundraising website Prizeo, has raised $377,818 so far. Though the two $20,000 prizes have been claimed, those who donate now still have a chance to win a helicopter ride with the author.
