A satirical campaign shedding light on Republican resistance to negotiate with Iran went live on Monday, coinciding with the return of nuclear talks between Iran and the P5+1.
The "Getting to No" campaign stars a satirical character, the "No-Gotiator," who represents hard-liners opposed to negotiating with Iran. The No-Gotiator is selling a "book" full of ways to avoid compromise, interviewing readers who undermine negotiations in a parodical promotional video.
On Monday, Iran will meet with six world powers -- France, Britain, Germany, Russia, China and the United States -- to negotiate an end to their nuclear proliferation in exchange for eased economic sanctions. Some Republicans have pushed for further sanctions amid the fragile negotiations.
The No-Gotiator invites "Mr. Tomlinson," a senior staffer from the State Department, to explain why he disagrees with his book's theme of avoiding compromise.
"Our country is engaged in very important, very sensitive negotiations with Iran right now. And we've got a whole lot of 'No-Gotiators' who seem determined to undermine the whole thing," Tomlinson says. "If they get their way, this whole opportunity which we've worked years to create, it's going to slip away, and then either we're going to have a war with Iran, or they're going to get the bomb."
