The timing couldn't have been better for a local reporter in Portland, Ore. during the United States' World Cup win over Ghana on Monday. And the reaction couldn't have been more American.
KGW's Drew Carney was reporting live from a beer garden while a large crowd was watching the game. Less than two minutes into the segment while Carney was interviewing one of the fans, John Brooks connected with Graham Zusi on a corner kick and headed the ball into the net to give the U.S. a 2-1 lead in the 86th minute. The KGW crew caught the crowd's reaction before going back to Carney, who looked directly at the camera as he calmly unzipped his jacket to show his USA shirt.
Carney then joined the crowd in chanting "U-S-A!" as the news anchors laughed on.
