Max Landis Denies Reports He's Polishing 'Ghostbusters 3' Script

Development rumors surrounding a potential third "Ghostbusters" movie have left us wondering who we're gonna call for at least a decade. The latest bout indicated that Max Landis ("Chronicle," 2015's "American Ultra") was giving the script a quick-turnaround polish.

But, as is the norm for these incessant "Ghostbusters 3" rumors, as quickly as the thought was introduced, Landis denied its veracity. Nikki Finke broke the news on her new website, writing in a post that's since been removed. Slashfilm grabbed the key information before it was taken down.

I’ve just heard that screenwriter Max Landis ("Chronicle") is working on a new draft for "Ghostbusters 3" with a three-week turnaround. Landis, of course, is the son of director John Landis and costume designer/historian Deborah Nadoolman Landis. “Landis probably is doing more of a ‘polish’ than a Page 1 rewrite,” says one source. “Not huge changes, but could be cool,” another tells me.

Landis would have been working on a script first written by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky ("The Office," "Year One") and polished by Harold Ramis ("Caddyshack"), Dan Aykroyd and "Ghostbusters" director Ivan Reitman. Landis, who also wrote the script for next year's "Frankenstein" reboot starring James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe, seems like a decent fit to touch up a "Ghostbusters" movie, but the most interesting point made was the three-week turnaround. If true, it could have signaled that the film is still on track to enter production in early 2015 as previously expected. (There's still no director attached, although Sony is reportedly considering "We're the Millers" honcho Rawson Marshall Thurber.) Alas, Landis took to Twitter to deny the rumors.

Hours later, Landis was still discussing the topic. He revealed some insight into his tentative "Ghostbusters 3" pitch.
