What A Dad's Complete Surrender To Love Looks Like

Posted: Updated:

When we posted an ad for Boba carriers that was actually a love letter to motherhood, dads and moms alike asked, "Where is the ode to fatherhood?" Now, in response to the original's success the company produced a new tear-jerker of a spot called "You Made Me a Father."

Boba used the same creative team to produce their new video. Director Jasper Gray, of Futuristic Films, interviewed real dads to find out how they felt they changed after having kids. Then, Laurenne Sala, the same writer who crafted the script for the moms' video, worked her magic. (Read the full text below.)

The main difference between the two videos is that this one features a reverse timeline. Jenna Benson, a rep for Boba, explained this choice via e-mail: "Dads become more emotionally invested through their ongoing relationships with their kids (vs. moms who may form an emotional bond throughout pregnancy or immediately at birth)."

She also said that the dads Boba interviewed focused on foibles and physical play, and mentioned how much having kids changed their priorities in life more than the moms did. Through both projects, it became clear that all parents hold one experience very much in common -- "a complete surrender to love."

And so, we throw down the same challenge as last time. How far can you get into this without tearing up?

You and me -- we're in this together.

I get to spend my life helping you figure out who you are.

I get to show you what I love and teach you to believe in yourself. Teach you to be curious, to think, to dream, to put one foot in front of the other...

I get to teach you to get back up, to try again, to be brave, to be human, to be part of this big world...

I'm your example, your friend, your pillow, your hero.

And you know what? You're mine too. You taught me to slow down, to be amazed -- at you, at life.

You taught me how to re-order my every priority, and that my heart could exist outside my body and I could hold it in my arms.

You taught me that I do know what I'm doing. Maybe. Or maybe it doesn't matter.

From you, I've learned to be loud and free and silly. You and your hugs and your love. You've shattered my hard shell, scrubbed away my roughness, and taught me that being a man isn't always about being manly.

When you came into my life, you welcomed me into the greatest club in the world. You made me a Dad.
