Pet Cemeteries May Bury Owners With Animals In New York

Posted: Updated:

Pet cemeteries in New York state could soon be getting a human touch, thanks to a new regulation that makes it legal for pet owners to be buried with their deceased animals.

Starting in August, pet graveyards will be allowed to accept the remains of humans as long as they don't advertise that option, MyFoxNY.com reports.

Passing the regulation was a pet project of attorney Taylor York, who battled the state for three years to allow her uncle, a former NYPD officer, to spend the afterlife with his three Maltese pups, according to the New York Daily News.

But pet cemeteries won't make a killing from the new rule.

The regulation states that pet cemeteries can only bury human ashes as long as they don't charge a fee for it and don't advertise human burial services, the Associated Press reports.
