Why Kevin Hart Says Marrying Young Hurt His Marriage

Kevin Hart Opens Up About His Divorce

No one makes us laugh about how tough married life can be more than comedian Kevin Hart.

But in a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, the 34-year-old funnyman gets real about his marriage to ex Torrei Hart and explains why he thinks they couldn't keep it together as a couple.

"When people get married young, you don't really understand the true definition of marriage," said Hart, who married Torrei when they were both in their mid-twenties.

"You have to learn to be partners for real, and in my first relationship I didn't understand that definition because I was young, so you do things that you shouldn't do," he added.

The couple called it quits in 2011, after nearly eight years of marriage and two kids together. Torrei reportedly walked away with a mere $175,000 in the divorce settlement. (Hart was worth a reported $9 million at the time.)

In an interview with Ebony last year, Hart said that the divorce ultimately made him a better man.

"When I was married, I definitely went through a lying period," he told the magazine. "I just turned into a liar, but you learn from your mistakes. Being that guy once upon a time has helped me develop into the man I am now, and I approach relationships in a completely different manner."
