Esteemed Journalism School Apparently Forgot To Proofread Its Diplomas

One of the nation's top journalism schools had some explaining to do after several of their graduates received diplomas that featured a prominent misspelling.

As media blogger Jim Romenesko writes, a graduate of Northwestern University's Medill journalism program posted a photo to Twitter over the weekend of his friend's diploma citing the "Medill School of Journalism, Media, Itegrated [sic] Marketing Communications."

Medill spokesman Alan Cubbage said in a statement to the Chicago Sun-Times that the school's name was misspelled on about 30 of the 250 diplomas handed out on Saturday and that impacted students will be able to get a replacement typo-free diploma.

Had a similar error been committed by a Medill student, it would have warranted a "Medill F" stamp -- a failing grade for any assignment featuring a factual error. The irony was noted by students and alums who tweeted the story using the #MedillF hashtag, some of them noting the school's controversial name change in 2011.
