The Huffington Post Raises Chris Christie's Blood Pressure

The Huffington Post Has A Strange Effect On Chris Christie

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) has a unique way to make sure he Thrives: Try to avoid The Huffington Post.

In an interview on CNBC's "Squawk Box," he joked that reading the site raises his blood pressure.

"Squawk Box" hosts Andrew Ross Sorkin and Joe Kernen had asked Christie about New Jersey's budget and pension woes. On Monday, the governor signed New Jersey's new budget into law, using a line-item veto to slash about $1.1 billion in appropriations, which included cuts to the state pension fund.

Kernen argued that cutting pensions would exacerbate income inequality and could fuel animosity against the rich.

Christie disagreed.

"Listen, people aren't stupid," he told Kernen.

"I can show you 50 percent of the country that is stupid on this issue ... read The Huffington Post," Kernen responded.

"Well, listen. I try not to do that. I like to keep my blood pressure at a reasonable level," Christie said.

Last year, Christie's cardiologist assured that the New Jersey governor is in normal health, finding that his heart rate and blood pressure are both at reasonable levels.

Christie, for what it's worth, was The Huffington Post's guest at the 2013 White House Correspondents' Dinner and sat at the site's table with founder Arianna Huffington.

The CNBC hosts also asked Christie about a possible presidential run in 2016. He said he has not yet made a decision.

"I'm not running for anything at the moment," he said.
