Joan Rivers Officiates Gay Wedding At 'Diary Of A Mad Diva' Signing In New York

Posted: Updated:

Joan Rivers can now add "gay wedding officiant" to her ever-growing list of titles and accomplishments.

The 81-year-old comedian, author and icon married Jed Ryan and Joe Aiello in an impromptu ceremony at a Barnes & Noble signing of her new book, Diary of a Mad Diva, in New York on June 30.

"While we were waiting, we were reading the book," Aiello told ET. "She mentioned being an ordained minister, and I jokingly asked [Ryan], 'Do you think it's true? Maybe she'll marry us.' And he goes, 'Ask her.' So I did."

He then added, "I don't think he really thought I would, and neither one of us thought she'd say yes!"

It wasn't a first for Rivers, who is reportedly ordained by the Universal Life Church. In 2013, the self-proclaimed "queen of the gays" officiated at a "King Kong"-themed ceremony for Preston Bailey and Theo Bleckmann atop the Empire State Building.

"Every wedding I officiate has a cover charge and a two-drink minimum," she joked at the time.
