Demi Lovato closed New York's 2014 Pride festivities with a powerhouse performance at the annual Dance On The Pier June 29.
The 21-year-old pop songstress told The Huffington Post in an email that her Pride appearance was "an honor, because it truly represents all that I believe in -- individuality, independence, resilience and confidence!"
She added, "It was a privilege to be embraced and welcomed by the LGBT community at this year’s Dance on the Pier!"
The 21-year-old pop songstress, who also served as the Grand Marshal of L.A. Pride, has been speaking out on behalf of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community as of late. Speaking at Logo's "Trailblazers" event last month, she opened up about her gay grandfather, who came out in the 1960s.
"My grandfather was a trailblazer himself," she told the audience. "He was brave enough to come out in the 1960s and I feel a lot of my spirit has come from him. He passed away a few years later, and I only wish he could have been able to see all of the progress that has been made."
