Several NBA free agents have verbally agreed to terms with a team in the nine days since free agency opened (free agents can't officially sign until July 10). None of them include LeBron James, who has been the subject of countless furiously-updated Twitter feeds, endless television segments and baseless hot takes across social media.
While we wait on LeBron, Carmelo and even Chris Bosh, HuffPost Live hosted a roundtable on Wednesday to recap free agency thus far. Host Marc Lamont Hill and guests Robert Silverman — a Daily Beast contributor — and Stuart Pradia — a college basketball scout — gave their picks for most underrated signing of the summer.
"I think a move that a lot of people have criticized that I think is a very smart move is Orlando signing Channing Frye to a four-year, $32-million contract," Silverman said. "If you're building, you need veteran players to establish a culture of professionalism and teach guys the right way to play. You can't just roll with 22-year-olds."
The Magic have an average age of 22.7 years old under current roster construction, and went 23-59 last season in a rebuilding year. They picked Aaron Gordon and Elfrid Payton in the NBA Draft last month.
Hill also mentioned the Clippers signing Spencer Hawes (four years, $23 million) as an underrated deal.
