Respect. More than any other emotion, that's the feeling Derek Jeter has commanded throughout his 20 years in Major League Baseball. As the Yankees shortstop enters the halfway turn of his farewell season, Nike's Air Jordan brand (a longtime sponsor of Jeter) has released an incredible commercial to celebrate his final year.
The ad starts unassumingly enough, with Jeter adjusting the brim of his batting helmet just like he has in many of his 10,000-plus plate appearances. However, this minor gesture is then reciprocated ten-times over as a parade of opponents, fans, and peers alike tip their own hats to The Captain one last time. The commercial also features a murderer's row of celebrity cameos, including Jay-Z, Rudy Guliani, Tiger Woods, and Michael Jordan. Even Jeter's legendary ex-teammates and fellow "Core Four" members Andy Pettitte, Mariano Rivera, and Jorge Posada can be seen in it as well.
The full-length 90-second spot will air on Tuesday night during the MLB All Star Game on Fox, per Adweek.com.
