Raw Video Of Hot Air Balloon Hitting Power Lines Surfaces

Hot Air Balloon Hits Power Lines In Mass. (RAW VIDEO)

Raw video of a hot air balloon accident in Massachusetts has emerged.

The video, which was recorded by Jose Papelo and obtained by the Wall Street Journal, shows the moment a pink-and-white checkered hot air balloon grazes power lines in the town of Clinton, about 45 miles west of Boston.

The balloon struck the power lines while attempting to land around 7:40 Saturday evening, causing an explosion that burned five people aboard, the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed to WBZ. Fortunately, no one was killed.

Witnesses told the Worcester Telegram that they were horrified when they saw the balloon drifting near the lines, realizing that the pilot would not be able to clear the looming hazard.

"I saw the guy was trying to get it up," Elvin Liciaga, who lives nearby, told the paper. "I just heard him trying to hit the flare for it to go up."

After the explosion, witnesses feared the worst.

“We thought they were gone,” neighbor Bob King told WBZ.
