Ice Cube Reveals Why Eazy-E's Son Was Rejected For N.W.A Biopic, 'Straight Outta Compton'

Ice Cube Opens Up On N.W.A Biopic Casting Drama

N.W.A’s highly anticipated forthcoming biopic, “Straight Outta Compton” has received a lot of attention in recent weeks from the film’s controversial casting process to rumors of Eazy-E’s son, Eric Wright Jr., anger after not being able to portray his father in the film.

Earlier this week during a phone interview with Colorado radio station, KS 107.5, Ice Cube explained why he and his co-producers decided to choose actor Jason Mitchell instead of Wright, Jr.

“He’s an up-and-coming actor trying to do it, but we needed somebody who was a little more polished to play Eazy, because he goes through a lot in his life,” Cube admitted. “He goes from selling dope in Compton to fighting for his life in a hospital bed. So we needed to find an actor with a lot of range. And we just couldn’t use just anybody. We gave him a shot, and it just didn’t work out.”

Lil Eazy has since dismissed the rumors and offered his support to Mitchell, who will be starring as the late rapper.
