The 17 Food Words People Spell Wrong All The Time

Dude, it's sherbet.

Between writing about food all day and eating out way too much, we here at HuffPost Taste have just about had it with misspelled food words. Sure, everyone spells words incorrectly here and there and we can be as guilty as the next guy. But when it comes to food words, there are a whole slew that people misspell way too often -- and unfortunately we encounter them more than we'd like.

Here are 17 words people spell wrong all the time. Please, for the love of all things culinary, correct the error of your ways if you find a word here that you spell incorrectly.

1
Dessert
Raspberri Cupcakes
It's not desert -- it's dessert! Notice the double S. You want more dessert, you want seconds, you want two S's.
2
Sherbet
Food52
You may call it "sherbert," but it's spelled and pronounced "sherbet."
3
Cardamom

Please stop spelling it "cardamon." Maybe you're confusing it with cinnamon, or maybe we don't know how the heck you came up with this spelling, but cardamom ends with M, not N.
4
Barbecue
The Passionfruit
"Barbacue?" Come on, guys.
5
Mascarpone
Desserts With Benefits
The R comes in the second syllable, not the first. No, it is not "marscapone," so give it up already.
6
Tomato

This is embarrassing, so get it straight: Tomato does not have an E. Two or more tomatoes (as in the plural of tomato), has an E. Same goes with potato/potatoes.
7
Omelet Or Omelette

Ok, we'll give you this one because there are two acceptable spellings for this word. However "omlette," "omlett," "omellette" and "omellet" are all wrong.
8
Caesar Salad
Bev Cooks
Oh brother. Has anyone ever spelled this correctly? It's not "ceasar," it's not "caeser," and it's most definitely not "cesar." It's Caesar to you, and to everyone, always.
9
Espresso

There is no "x" in espresso. We repeat: There is no "x" in espresso.
10
Fettuccine
Simply Recipes
Two T's, two C's, one N and an E at the end. The word does not end with I. Deal with it.
11
Cappuccino

Ok, again with the Italian words. Just get it right already! Not "cappucino," not "cappucinno," it's cappuccino!
12
Broccoli

It's not "brocoli," or "brocolli." You may not care, but we do.
13
Zucchini

Oh brother.
14
Restaurateur
Associated Press
A restaurateur is someone who owns or operates a restaurant. A "restauranteur" is no one.
15
Caramel
It's not "caramal." Nor is it "caramalized." It's caramel, with an E.
16
Cheddar

Cheddar, on the other hand, is not spelled with an E at the end. We know you've made that mistake, and we know you're sorry. We accept your apology, because we love cheddar that much.
17
Worcestershire Sauce
Associated Press
It's ok, this one's tough. But once you get the spelling down, please also try to pronounce it correctly too.
