This Man Claims Leaving New York Was The 'Best Thing That Happened' To Him

How New York City 'Sucked The Life Out Of Me'

New York City has housed some of the most prominent screenwriters of our time, but for aspiring screenwriter Gregory Tapscott, the Big Apple proved to be hostile to both his writing and his happiness.

"I've been writing a screenplay for the last three months, and while I was in New York City, I found the creative process to be absolutely elusive," he told HuffPost Live's Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani. "Living there sucked the life out of me."

Usually a "pretty happy person," Tapscott said that he "legitimately felt like the contours" of his face were "melting or twisting" him into a "very unhappy person."

Another problem he found was how the hustle and bustle of city life actually hindered creativity.

"I felt like it was kind of overwhelming," the New Hampshire native said. "You have so many people in such a fast-paced way of life that you don't really -- you can't slow down and you don't have time to reflect and ponder, and that's where happiness becomes elusive."

But for city dwellers feeling similarly, there's still hope: you can always move.

"The best thing that happened to me was that I left New York," Tapscott said.
