Fashion designer and "Candidly Nicole" star Nicole Richie and her Good Charlotte rocker husband Joel Madden are parents to 6-year-old daughter Harlow and 4-year-old son Sparrow. In the above clip from "Oprah: Where Are They Now?" Richie tells Oprah about her parenting philosophy.
Richie says she is constantly talking with other moms and looking for new ways to develop a strong relationship with her kids. "There's always room for improvement," she says. "I do know that I do the best I can."
When talking to her children, Richie is all about honesty. "I have to always come from a place of love and compassion with them," she says. "My kids operate best when I let them have a voice and I really explain things to them. Because, really, kids want to be told the truth. They just want you to be truthful."
"They know you more than you know yourself," Richie says.
