It has not been a good week for food safety. Infractions were all over the map: One of McDonald's China-based meat suppliers was accused of repackaging old meat as new, causing recalls of beef, pork and chicken at many of the country's restaurants. Domestically, a major supplier of summer fruit to places like Trader Joe's, Costco and Wal-Mart had to recall peaches, nectarines, plums and pluots after a potential listeria contamination.
On August 1, the Wawona Packing Company announced that fruit bought five days later than previously stated may also have been affected. Given that the dates extend to July 17 -- nearly two weeks before the announcement, which is well beyond the shelf life of a stone fruit -- chances are, this recall doesn't do much good for consumers.
But it got us wondering: What foods are most likely to make us sick and where do they come from?
