5 Reasons Everyone Seems To Be Hating On David Ortiz

Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz might always be beloved throughout New England. But Big Papi certainly seems to have a penchant for getting on the nerves of those beyond the borders of Red Sox nation.

So far during the 2014 MLB season, Ortiz has defended his actions in feuds with a few Tampa Bay Rays pitchers and even MLB Network hosts.

Here are five things that seem to have the haters so angry with Ortiz:

  • The Bat Flip
Opposing players, notably Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Chris Archer, don't like it much when Ortiz "pimps" a home run.
  • The Slow Trip 'Round The Bases
Ortiz can be historically slow when rounding the bases after his home runs.
  • He's The Champ
The Red Sox won it all in 2013. Few things can rally the haters, like a smiling winner.
  • There's That Whole PED Thing
Others focus on the home runs rather than the trot or the bat flip, to contend that Ortiz got a "free pass" after reportedly testing positive for PEDs in 2003 when MLB conducted anonymous tests.
  • A-Rod Isn't Here To Get Kicked Around
With A-Rod suspended for the full 2014 season, maybe some people, especially in the AL East, just need another ballplayer to pick on.
