Red Sox Pitcher Wins $100 With Infield Hit Off Best Friend And Former Teammate

MLB Pitcher Wins Bet Against Best Friend And Former Teammate

Last week, pitchers Joe Kelly and Shelby Miller were teammates. But shortly after the St. Louis Cardinals dealt Kelly to Boston on the day of Major League Baseball's non-waive trade deadline, the two pitched against each other at Busch Stadium.

Since both pitchers would have to bat in the inter-league matchup in a National League stadium, the two close friends, who were each other's best man in their recent weddings, decided to make a wager.

"He said if he gets a hit off me, I owe him $100," Miller told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch before the game.

Kelly ended up walking Miller on four pitches when they first squared off. But walks weren't part of the bet. When Kelly had his first at-bat of the game in the third inning, he reached first base on an infield hit.
