Teen Who Leapt From Moving Vehicle Made Up Abduction Story: Cops

A teenager who vanished last week and was seen jumping from a moving vehicle the next day faked her own kidnapping, police say.

Hayley Turner, 18, was reported missing Thursday night from Bedford Township, Michigan, after telling her parents she was on her way to a video store.

Turner called a friend from her cellphone and said she was getting out of her car to help a man lying in a ditch, according to Michigan Live. Turner said, “He has a gun” and then the phone disconnected.

The next day around 2:30 p.m., a motorist in the town of Ecorse — about 45 miles from Bedford Township — reported seeing Turner leap from a slow-moving vehicle into a ditch.

Officials say Turner told them she had been abducted and at one point “hooded.”

However, Ecorse police announced Monday that an investigation concluded the kidnapping never happened, according to the News Herald. Authorities are not searching for a suspect.
