Archie Comics Is Promoting 'The Occult And Homosexuality' With Gay Storyline, Pundits Claim

Two American Family Association pundits fired off at Archie Comics, accusing the iconic title of promoting "the occult and homosexuality" in a recent storyline.

As Right Wing Watch first reported, Tim Wildmon and Ed Vitagliano of the AFA pointed a recent issue in which Archie died while taking a bullet for his gay friend, Kevin Keller, as part of a discussion with Religious Right pundit Larry Tomczak.

"I know I sound like an old crank," Vitagliano said, "But when kids grow up being fed lies, why should we surprised if they believe lies? "

He continued, "These kids grew up watching their parents laugh at 'Will & Grace,' which changed people’s opinions, and now the kids don’t have a problem with it.”

The group isn't the first to express its disapproval of Archie Comics and the Kevin Keller character specifically. In 2012, One Million Moms threatened Toys 'R' Us with a boycott because the toy chain is carried the controversial Archie Comics issue in which Keller tied the knot in a same-sex wedding.

That same year, Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater defended the inclusion of Keller, noting, "As I’ve said before, Riverdale is a safe, welcoming place that does not judge anyone."

He went on to note, "Kevin Keller will forever be a part of Riverdale, and he will live a happy, long life free of prejudice, hate and narrow-minded people."
