A Maryland State police officer arrived on a bridge just in time to stop an apparent suicide attempt last weekend. The dramatic scene was captured on his cruiser's dashcam.

Trooper Joshua Kim told WBAL News that he was heading across the Millard E. Tydings Memorial Bridge over the Susquehanna River on Saturday when he noticed a man walking on the other side. Concerned, the officer turned around to check on him.

The video shows a man on the bridge offer a casual wave as the cruiser pulls up. Then, when the officer starts running toward him, the man throws a leg over the side of the bridge and appears ready to jump.

"Most of what you see in that video is me thinking on my own because I didn't want to go over the bridge with him, so I got down on my knees and pulled him back," Kim told WBAL News.

“It could have been tragic for both of them,” Maryland State police spokeswoman Elena Russo told Havre De Grace Patch. “It took a lot of courage putting his own life in danger.”

The man has not been identified, and is currently being evaluated at a local hospital.

Maryland State Police posted the video to YouTube as well as the agency's Facebook page.

If you're contemplating suicide, seek help. Call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255, or chat with a counselor online.
