Robin Williams Honored On Broadway With Show-Stopping Tribute By Cast Of 'Aladdin'

Broadway's Tribute To Robin Williams Will Bring Tears To Your Eyes

Broadway dimmed its lights on Wednesday in honor of actor and comedian Robin Williams, who died Monday in an apparent suicide. But one show-stopping tribute took place on Tuesday night inside the New Amsterdam Theatre.

James Monroe Iglehart, who won a Tony Award this year for his portrayal of Genie, led the cast of "Aladdin" as well as the audience in a rousing singalong of "Friend Like Me."

Williams voiced the role of the scene-stealing Genie in the 1992 Disney animated feature, turning the character into a master impersonator and helping the film to become the year's highest-grossing movie.

While Williams was not a regular on the Great White Way, he did star in the 2011 production of "Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo." He also appeared in a one-man show on Broadway in 2002 and performed with Steve Martin off-Broadway in "Waiting for Godot" at Lincoln Center in 1988.
