Trevor Block Party Presented By The Trevor Project

Are You Ready For The Trevor Block Party?

Are you ready for the Trevor Block Party?

On Sunday, Aug.17, Trevor NextGen will host the organization's first-ever block party at the Green Building in Brooklyn. The event will host a number of prominent queer DJs, a performance by drag collective Switch N' Play, an open bar (with admission) and a raffle.

Trevor NextGen is made up of a community of volunteers who support the mission of The Trevor Project to provide crisis intervention and suicide prevention for queer youth.

"For past four years Trevor NextGen has been hosting large events in Manhattan to spread awareness of the Trevor Project and help Trevor raise money and identify potential volunteers for its varied crisis services," Mike Hines, co-chair of Trevor NextGen, said in a statement sent to The Huffington Post. "These events were drawing in many from the community of gay men in New York, but not so many from other parts of the LGBTQ spectrum. So some of the women in NextGen had ideas about how to get other communities involved, and that's why we are so excited to be throwing the Block Party, our first ever fundraiser and community engagement event in Brooklyn. The theme is Block Party because, like a block party in your neighborhood, this event is meant to be as open and accessible to the community as we can make it, and a fun and casual Sunday afternoon too. Trevor's services are helping youth from every facet of the queer community, and we wanted the adults from those communities to be engaged with Trevor as well."

Earlier this year, HuffPost Gay Voices and Arianna Huffington were honored by The Trevor Project for their work and dedication surrounding LGBT advocacy. Huffington received the Trevor Hero Award, presented by Neil Patrick Harris.
