Jennifer Hudson's half-brother Stephen Angelo Simpson was arrested on Tuesday, Aug. 19 after he allegedly stabbed a man several times on Monday in South Haven Charter Township in Van Buren County, Michigan, reports local CBS affiliate WWMT.

Simpson, 45, allegedly stormed into his estranged wife's apartment and repeatedly stabbed the woman's current boyfriend, whom police only identified as Charlie, in the chest, arms and face, witnesses told the website.

A neighbor told WWMT that the couple left to get help around 3 a.m. "He said someone knocked on the door. He thought he was knocking on the door for somebody, and he started getting stabbed up," the neighbor said. "I open the door and see blood everywhere. He was stabbed in his chin and his chest, he had puncture wounds in his chest and his arms and stuff."

Police told WWMT, Simpson's estranged wife locked herself in the bathroom until he left, adding that they are unsure exactly who was the intended target of the attack. Simpson has a history of domestic violence, and is currently on probation after he was previously arrested several times, most recently for assaulting his wife on Super Bowl Sunday, the website reports.

Meanwhile, Simpson's Oscar and Grammy-winning half-sister (they share the same father Samuel Simpson), has yet to make a statement regarding his arrest.

And as TMZ notes, the incident mirrors another tragedy for the Hudson family. In 2008, William Balfour -- the ex-boyfriend of Jennifer's sister Julia -- murdered her mother, brother and nephew in a "jealous rage" triggered by what he thought was a gift to Julia from her new boyfriend.
