Pierce Brosnan Reveals The Part He Was Deemed 'Too Handsome' To Play

The Part Pierce Brosnan Was 'Too Handsome' To Play

It's hard to believe there are roles even actors -- people whom society has recognized as being more attractive than the average Joe -- can be too pretty for. Alas, there seem to be, as Pierce Brosnan found out when he gave a call to Frank McCourt, the author of the 1996 memoir "Angela's Ashes," in hopes of being cast in the film adaptation.

"I remember reading 'Angela's Ashes,' and I really wanted to play the part in 'Angela's Ashes,' being an Irishman," he recounted in a HuffPost Live interview on Wednesday. "[I] called Frank McCourt up to throw my hat in the ring, and he said, 'Nope. Too handsome. Too handsome.'"

The 61-year-old knows that these kind of critiques are par for the course as an actor.

"You're either too short, you're too tall. You're too this, you're too that," he said. "Again, it goes back to the judgement factor. You have to be comfortable in your own skin, and wear it lightly and just get on with the job. Be good to people, be kind to people, show up, read the lines, hit the mark and go home."
