Rescuers Save Woman Trapped In Minivan As Arizona Flood Waters Engulf It

Posted: Updated:

Need your daily dose of heroism? Cast your eyes on this bit of derring-do to save a woman from flood waters in Phoenix, Arizona.

In footage above provided by ABC 15, rescuers from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office descend in a helicopter and quickly get to work to extract the woman from a minivan before it's swallowed by raging water. With one responder providing assistance, the other wades through a powerful current, shatters a window and eventually pulls an elderly woman from the vehicle.

ABC 15, which spoke to the unidentified woman's daughter, reported that the woman was shaken but OK.

The sheriff's office identified the lifesavers as Sgt. Wes Kuefer, the one who pulled the woman out of the vehicle, Deputy Joe Scudella and pilot Mike White.

Heavy rains in the Phoenix area on Tuesday knocked out power in nearly 3,000 homes and necessitated the rescue of a dozen people, NBC News wrote.

Nice job, guys.
