Brooklyn Teacher Allegedly Sent Nude Photo To Female Student

A math and science teacher in Brooklyn is accused of sending a "photo of his genitals" to a 16-year-old student, according authorities.

Sean Shaynak, 44, was indicted Tuesday on charges including first-degree disseminating indecent material to a minor, the Brooklyn district attorney's office said in a statement. He pleaded not guilty.

Officials said that the instructor at the prestigious Brooklyn Tech High School in New York City sent the image on June 27, 2014.

According to the New York Post:

Shaynak sent the sick pic through Snapchat — a service that allows users to send photos that are quickly erased from the recipient’s phone. But the savvy teen recorded the image with her cell phone, Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson said in a press release.

Authorities said that the FBI became aware of the incident after the recipient of the image notified an adult.

The exact content of the photo has not been disclosed, but someone who claimed to have seen the image told the New York Daily News that, “I want to poke my eyes out.”

Shaynak was held on $25,000 cash bail. He faces up to seven years in prison.
