Nancy Pelosi Had A Pretty Simple Response To Ted Cruz's Bizarre 'SNL' Claim

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) had a pretty simple response to to Sen. Ted Cruz's (R-Texas) claim that a proposed constitutional amendment intended to reverse the Supreme Court's 2010 Citizens United decision could put "Saturday Night Live" creator Lorne Michaels in jail.

Here's Pelosi on NBC's "Late Night with Seth Meyers" reacting to a clip of Cruz making the claim on the Senate floor:

Cruz said the amendment applies to SNL because NBC is a corporation, and the late-night show has had influence over elections. He called the proposal -- which would give Congress and states more power to regulate campaign financing -- "extraordinary," "breathtaking" and "dangerous," saying it threatens First Amendment protections.

"I don't know if he didn't know what he was talking about, or if he intentionally wanted to use a scare tactic, but that is as far from the truth as it could be," Pelosi told Meyers, who said he "can't do time" in jail. (Meyers was an anchor on the show's "Weekend Update" from 2006 to 2014.)

"The fact is, we all should be working to overturn Citizens United and reduce the role of money in politics, and I guarantee you this, you reduce the role of money in politics, increase the level of civility, you will elect more women, more young people, more minorities, more LGBT community people, to the Congress of the United States," Pelosi continued. "It's very important."
