NYPD Officer Dead, 8 Injured In Police Van Crash

An NYPD officer is dead and eight others are injured after a police van crashed in the Bronx early Sunday morning.

The vehicle was traveling on Bruckner Boulevard in Hunts Point around 5 a.m. when the crash occurred, according to CBS New York. No other vehicles were involved in the incident, police said.

The injured officers were rushed to several area hospitals.

The officers, assigned to the 47th Precinct in the north Bronx, had been heading south to a special detail in Manhattan related to the start of the United Nations General Assembly on Monday, the police said.

Police did not immediately release the identity of the deceased officer or those injured. They have also not yet said what caused the accident.
