Cop Fired After Driving Past Woman Screaming About Her Kids Being Kidnapped

Cop Fired After Ignoring Woman Screaming For Help

A Dallas police officer who ignored the pleas of a mom whose children were kidnapped was fired on Wednesday.

MyFoxDFW reports that Chief David Brown axed Officer Les Richardson after the Aug. 25 incident.

The Dallas Morning News has more on what happened:

While Richardson, 61, was on his way to a burglary call Aug. 25, dispatchers announced that shots had been fired and a suspect had rammed a woman’s car in the area where Richardson was driving, police said.

He then drove past a woman who was shouting, “That’s him, that’s him, right there.”

"Right here what, baby? I'm on a cal,l" Richardson said, before driving away. The interaction was captured by his dash cam and the footage, shown above, was released by the department on Wednesday. Richardson is also shown smoking in his car, a violation of department policy.

The woman was referring to Steven Douglas, who police said had slammed into her car and then kidnapped her two children at gunpoint.

Douglas was later killed by authorities after he allegedly pointed a gun at an officer. The children were unharmed.

DPD explained the firing in a statement obtained by CBS DFW.

“An Internal Affairs investigation concluded that Senior Corporal Richardson placed persons in greater danger than necessary when he failed to take any action as a police officer and made an inappropriate comment to a citizen. The investigation also concluded that he used tobacco product while driving a Dallas police vehicle and failed to immediately clear upon completion of the call he was assigned.”
