Chelsea Handler Shares What Judaism Means To Her

Chelsea Handler: Judaism Is 'The Only Religion I Identify With'

Chelsea Handler opened up about religion's place in her life during a conversation with HuffPost Live on Thursday.

The comedian grew up with a Mormon mother and Jewish father, and she had a bat mitzvah that made for quite an incredible throwback photo years later. Handler isn't incredibly religious today, but she does feel a connection to Judaism, she told HuffPost Live's Roy Sekoff.

"It's the only religion I identify with," she said. "It's the only thing I knew growing up, so if I had to go to pray somewhere, I would go to a synagogue. That's the only thing I know."

She also spoke about the resistance Jewish people still face in industries that aren't as accepting as Hollywood.

"Jews are underdogs -- not in my world, obviously, they're not. [But] there's a lot of anti-Semitism going on," she said.
