The slimming of the ranks at Turner Broadcasting has begun.

Confirming earlier reports, the media conglomerate has reportedly cut positions from its CNN and HLN divisions, several sources reported on Tuesday.

Capital New York reports that 300 positions, or 8% of CNN’s workforce is being cut, affecting employees in Atlanta, Washington, D.C., New York and Los Angeles. Roughly half of that amount took a voluntary buyout, but the remaining staff have been laid off. The cuts are happening today and tomorrow.

Industry sources said that production staff on several of shows were being dismissed, including HLN host Jane Velez-Mitchell.

Mashable reports Christiane Amanpour‘s New York-based staff has also been cut.

Turner is also cutting its entire Entertainment division, the unit that covers awards shows and red carpet events, industry insiders said. Capital New York reports that this includes top entertainment producers.

Turner had earlier said it would be cutting 10 percent of its workforce over several weeks, which would equate to approximately 1,475 people losing their jobs. A company statement said that the job cuts "will come at all levels from across the company's news, entertainment, kids, young adult and sports networks and businesses, as well as corporate functions, in 18 Turner locations around the world." Turner operate CNN, TNT, TBS, and other networks.

In August, CNN President Jeff Zucker warned cuts were coming, telling staffers that they'd have to "do less and have to do it with less.” Turner CEO John Martin’s has said his is to a more “streamlined, nimble and efficient company." Turner Broadcasting Division is a part of Time Warner, which has been seeking to cut costs.

On Wednesday, TVNewser learned that CNN canceled "Crossfire" as part of the cuts. Hosts Newt Gingrich, Van Jones, S.E. Cupp and Stephanie Cutter will all reportedly stay at CNN as political commentators, and many staff members are being pushed to apply for other jobs at the network.

The Wrap also reported Wednesday that "CNN Money" with Christine Romans, “Unguarded” with Rachel Nichols and “Sanjay Gupta MD” have been canceled as well. TVNewser confirmed the end of "Unguarded," adding that Nichols will remain at CNN as a sports anchor. The exact number of staffers cut as a result of the cancellations is still unknown.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
