Celebrities Snap Selfies In Bed For Latest Campaign To Help Syrian Children

Some celebrities want their privacy. Others take pictures of themselves shirtless in the sheets of their bed and want you to see it -- for a good cause, of course.

The #WakeUpCall campaign, launched by UNICEF UK ambassador Jemima Khan, is spreading through social media outlets and serving to remind the world of Syrian children impacted by war. To promote the awareness campaign, celebrities -- including Paris Hilton, Liam Neeson, Stephen Fry and Naomi Campbell -- have posted images of themselves in bed upon waking up. Through their tweets and Instagram posts, many of them have challenged other big name entertainers and influencers to do the same.

According to the global humanitarian organization, Syria is one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a child. About 6.5 million Syrian children have suffered because of the civil conflict, with roughly 2.8 million no longer able to attend school and 1 million displaced into nearby nations due to war.

Distributing humanitarian aid in Syria has been further complicated by the expansion of the Islamic State in the region, Reuters reported Monday. Yacoub El Hillo, the U.N. coordinator in Syria, told the news outlet that safety concerns regarding the Islamic State's history capturing aid workers also creates a major barrier in getting relief to the places that need it.

"We really have huge gaps," El Hillo told Reuters of the U.N.'s inability to adequately aid the entire country. "The idea is not just to deliver items. The idea is to make sure that people's well-being is catered for; that there are no protection concerns, there are no violations ... Physical presence is vital."
