Letterman's Cue Card Guy Fired For Assaulting A Writer

"The Late Show With David Letterman" is now short one cue-card man.

Tony Mendez, the card man for Letterman's nightly talk show, was fired earlier this month after getting into an argument that turned physical with Bill Scheft, one of the show's staff writers, the New York Post reported.

After an argument during rehearsal, Mendez pushed Scheft against the wall but "never hit him," Mendez told the Post.

“Bill was always undermining me -- making himself out as Dave’s No. 1,” Mendez said. “Trying to pretend that I wasn’t even in the room ... little passive-aggressive things."

Despite the termination, Mendez has nothing but love for Letterman, adding that Dave is "the best, the most generous boss I have ever had."
