For the third time in under a year, Hugh Jackman has reportedly been diagnosed and treated for skin cancer.
The actor’s rep told E! News that Jackman was recently treated for basal cell carcinoma. The rep added that the “X-Men” star is “all good” now.
The 46-year-old Australian was previously treated for basal cell carcinoma in November 2013, and again in May this year. On both of those occasions, the cancer was removed from his nose.
Basal cell carcinoma is the most common type of cancer in the United States, according to the National Institutes of Health. It is usually entirely treatable; however, the Skin Cancer Foundation warns that the disease can cause disfigurement if not promptly treated.
Since his diagnosis, Jackman has spoken out on the importance of using sun protection as well as getting regular checkups.
On Monday, he posted an image on his Instagram account featuring the words “Everybody’s free (to wear sunscreen),” an apparent reference to the spoken word song by Australian director Baz Luhrmann. In May, Jackman posted a photograph of his bandaged nose post-treatment with the plea: “PLEASE! PLEASE! WEAR SUNSCREEN!”
Following his treatment last Spring, Jackman told The Associated Press that he believed his battle with skin cancer had not come quite come to an end.
“I'm realistic about the future and it's more than likely that I'll have at least one more but probably many more, which is not uncommon for an Aussie particularly from English stock growing up in Australia where I don't remember ever being told to put sunscreen on,” Jackman told the news outlet. ”But the beauty of this is it's all preventable, it's just about getting proper check-ups. I can be typical man, a little lazy, I couldn't be bothered and now I'm not lazy at all.”
