Jerry Cannon Defeated By Dan Benishek In 2014 Michigan Election For Congress

Democrat Jerry Cannon, a retired general and former sheriff of Kalkaska County, Michigan, was defeated by U.S. Rep. Dan Benishek (R) in Tuesday's midterm election for Congress.

Cannon was the commander of the Joint Detention Operations Group at Guantanamo Bay, according to The Leader. Cannon told Roll Call in October he would serve at Gitmo again, despite some who "might try to make it controversial."

"I served with some great young Americans,” he said.

Benishek was first elected to represented Michigan's 1st District in 2010.
