Pat Murphy Loses To Rod Blum In Iowa Midterm Election

Iowa state Rep. Pat Murphy (D) lost to Republican Rod Blum in the state's 1st District Tuesday.

The two candidates were vying to succeed Rep. Bruce Braley (D), who ran for the Senate. The congressional district is considered one of Iowa's most Democratic-leaning.

Murphy emerged from a five-candidate Democratic primary earlier this year and has served as speaker of the state House. Blum unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination to run for the seat in 2012.
