Rhea Perlman On Women's Success In TV: 'It's About Freakin' Time!'

From "Transparent's" Jill Soloway to ABC's Shonda Rhimes smorgasbord, women truly have reason to celebrate the influx of girl power on the small screen.

Rhea Perlman has worked in TV long enough to appreciate just how special this pop culture moment is. The beloved "Cheers" star currently plays the mother of Mindy's boyfriend on "The Mindy Project." In a HuffPost Live interview on Nov. 11, Perlman told host Marc Lamont Hill that it was "great to see women merging" their talents in showrunner positions, citing Lena Dunham, Mindy Kaling and Shonda Rhimes as examples.

"When you see women becoming blockbuster stars because of their talent, it's very gratifying," she said. "And it's about freakin' time!"

And while Perlman still thinks there's progress to be made in Hollywood with regard to pay equality, she's confident that won't always be true.

"It's going to change," she declared. "[And] yes, I have optimism, because you gotta have it. I've been around long enough to see what a ride it is and has been."
