Conservative talk-show host Glenn Beck has called out the Associated Press for having "raped Bill Cosby" after it released a portion of an earlier interview with the comedian.
On Wednesday, the AP published an interview in which a reporter asked Cosby to respond to allegations that he's raped more than a dozen women. Cosby declined to respond, but after the interview, while the cameras were still rolling, he requested the AP "scuttle" that part of the segment.
"We thought, because it was AP, that it wouldn't be necessary to go over that question with you," Cosby told the interviewer. "Tell your boss the reason why we didn't say that upfront was because we thought ... the AP had the integrity to not ask."
In the clip, the AP reveals the interview was taped Nov. 6, shortly after comedian Hannibal Buress brought up the allegations against Cosby during a stand up bit in Philadelphia. The narrator goes on to say that after more women have come forward with accusations, the AP went through the video and decided to publish Cosby's full reaction to the inquiry.
Apparently outraged, Beck devoted more than 15 minutes of "The Glenn Beck Radio Program" to the subject on Thursday.
"You want to talk about rape? That’s media rape right there,” Beck said, referring to the AP's inquiry. “You said you would not do that. Since when does your ‘no’ mean ‘yes’? Do you know the definition of ‘no,’ sir? You’ve just raped Bill Cosby. You said you wouldn’t do it. You just did it and then you blamed it on him. My gosh, maybe we should have a lesson on rape."
The AP's video concludes by saying: "The interview was on record. The AP made no agreement to avoid questions about the allegations or to withhold publishing any of his comments at any time."
