"I do hope you've had a good time," actress Emma Thompson told Mike Nichols while saluting him during AFI's Life Achievement Award ceremony in 2010. Popular culture awoke to the news of the celebrated director's death on Thursday, and after 48 years in the business, steering such iconic films as "The Graduate," "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" and "The Birdcage," it's likely that Mike Nichols had an excellent time.
