Life After A Police Grenade Landed In 19-Month-Old's Playpen

A police raid in the middle of the night took a tragic turn when a flash grenade landed in the playpen of 19-month-old Bou Bou and exploded, causing brain trauma, severe wounds to his face, arms and abdomen, as well as severe burns. Since the incident in May, Bou Bou has undergone eight surgeries, including one to reattach his nose.

The baby's parents, Alecia and Bounkham, who are emotionally distraught and say they are more than $1 million in debt now, sit down with Dr. Phil for help moving their entire family past the trauma.

Dr. Phil tells them in the video above: "My dad used to tell me: 'You better spend 5 percent of your time deciding whether the deal you got is a good deal or a bad deal, and 95 percent of your time deciding what you're going to do about it. Is there any way this is right, just or fair? Is it ever going to be made right, just or fair? No ... If the only way to maintain your sanity is for this to come out fair, you're going to go crazy. There is no fair; there is only reality."

He advises, "Your number one priority here is to nurture your family. And you can't do that if you don't take care of yourselves first. Children are resilient, they will recover. But will you?"

Watch Dr. Phil on The Doctors on Wednesday to see the daily practice he suggests they do to move forward with love — and even gratitude — in their home.
