Babysitters Lock Out Homeless Kids For Not Finding TV Remote: Cops

A married couple in Salisbury, Maryland faces charges of child neglect for allegedly kicking out two homeless children who couldn't find their remote control.

Leslie Ann Pruitt Parks, 42, and Leonard Joseph Parks, 62, were arrested Sunday night after officers found a 9-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl sitting outside of a convenience store around 11 p.m.

The children said that the couple was supposed to be watching them, but that Leonard Parks exiled them from the home when they couldn't find the TV clicker within 15 minute, MyFoxDC reports.

Police said the children's family is homeless. The mother left the kids with the Parks while she went to look for a place to stay overnight, according to DelmarvaNow.com.

The girl estimated they had been sitting outside for about two hours, and hadn't eaten since lunch time, WUSA9.com reports.

The children were fed and Social Services was contacted.

Leonard Parks was charged with two counts of neglecting a minor and two counts of contributing to the condition of a child. Leslie Parks was charged with two counts of conspiring to neglect a minor and two counts of conspiring to contribute to the condition of child.

They were both released from the Wicomico County Detention Center on $30,000 bond, WBOC TV reports. Trial is set for Jan. 29.
